RUGBYVentnor II 30, IW II 10
IN A hastily-rearranged game due to the late cancellation by Chineham II, Ventnor II produced a superb victory against IW II.
Warren Riches calmed Ventnor’s nerves with a couple of penalties early on and, in typical derby fashion, a successsion of uncompromising tackles led to the IW No8 being sin-binned.
Ventnor took the opportunity to increase their lead with a try by Gary Freeston before half-time.
After the break Ventnor upped their game, with Zack Davies and Shaun Williams both going over, before Freeston finished Ventnor’s scoring with his second try.
Riches converted two.
The IW scored two tries of their own in the last ten minutes through Gary Warvill and Gav Bodrell but only after Ventnor had eased off their scrummaging effort.
Man of the match was prop Ian Collins after his excellent power in the scrum, with the AJ Black Dog Award going to Nigel Malkin for his non-stop chatter with the referee.
Ventnor II: Collins, Williams, Malkin, Meadowcroft, Farnworth, Fradgeley, Freeston, Jackson, Mudge, Bridges, Harris, Bodros, Davies, Gurney, Riches. Sub: Simler.
