Record number make county team

Friday, March 5, 2010

RUGBYEIGHT former Vectis Rugby Club players have been chosen for this season’s Hampshire Under-20 squad — a record for the club.

The players are Ben Allman, now of Hartpury College, Sandown and Shanklin players Richard Booth, Todd Eldridge and Andy Gough, Havant’s Alex Howard and Jaryd Robinson, Cheltenham’s James Keyworth and Christopher Lewis, of University of Bath.

Hampshire Under-20s convincingly won their two warm-up matches against Dorset and Wiltshire and Sussex, winning 37-21 and 48-8 respectively.

But they disappointingly lost their first Jason Leonard Championship match against Surrey, 10-22.

Hampshire then beat Kent 26-17, and the Army, 16-13, in their two remaining championship matches.

Hampshire's qualification for the championship finals’ day now depends on the result of the postponed match between Kent and Surrey.
