IW SUFFERED defeat in their first game of the new Hampshire One season, against determined new boys Locksheath Pumas.

Starting strongly, IW — giving debuts to Aaron James and Ryan Cunningham — pressured the home side and Harry Dye added a penalty, but Locksheath added two penalties of their own to take a narrow lead.

As Locksheath came more into the game, a break by Brett Evans from within his own half, ended with him scoring and Dye adding the extras.

Although Locksheath added a further penalty before the break, IW were ahead.

In the second half, IW dominated the scrums and lineout, but were frustrated with penalties being given due to this dominance.

With further lack of cohesion at the break down, Locksheath added a further penalty, and then with 15 minutes to go, they found a gap out wide and scored, adding the kick.

IW came back in determined fashion and after several waves of attacks, Alex Smith crashed over.

However, Locksheath added a late penalty and held on for the win.

Rouse Intelligent Solutions man of the match was Ryan Stewart.

IW: Stirrup, Cunningham, James, Wood, Huish, Dye, Cotter, Freeman, Evans, Stewart, Smith, Brown, Newnham, Tennant, Tanner, Boulter, Tucker, Williams.
