SANDOWN and Shanklin Hurricanes have been preparing for the season with friendlies at higher league opposition.
They didn’t make a great start, losing 25-0 to Chichester, but against Grasshoppers they won 35-26.
They opened up a 10-0 lead through a Dan Robinson try and a conversion and penalty by Neil Buckingham.
After Grasshoppers scored an unconverted try, Sandown pulled away with two more Buckingham penalties and a converted Luke Chandler try.
In the second half, Michael Booth scored a converted try before Ben Buckingham touched down for five more points.
Grasshoppers found some form in the final minutes with three converted tries.
