The club took a 20-strong contingent of swimmers to the Midlands to compete in the Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain and there was an air of expectancy in the team with a number of wins behind them at both regional and local level.

After day one, with both the pistol shoots and the swim events over, the Bexley competitors found themselves in very strong team positions in all age groups and Carly Bland, Marie Heselden and Jack Legon led overnight for individual honours in their respective age groups.

There was a particularly impressive performance on day one from Carly who, competing as a junior woman, won her shoot with a magnificent score of 86 and put in an equally fine performance on her way to second place in the 200m swim.

Marie Heselden, competing in the girls' youth B category, took first place in the 200m swim with team-mate Lauren Cavender winning the shoot with a score of 79. And Jack Legon, competing in the boys' youth E event, did his cause no harm with a score of 78 in the shoot and a superb second place in the 50m swim.

Day two of the championships saw Carly seal victory in her category with a win in the 2,000m run while Marie and Jack also sealed their individual British titles with impressive runs.

Meanwhile, Stephanie Ashwin, competing in the girls' youth C, improved her overall high average position with a creditable fifth place in the run to push herself up the leaderboard and finish the weekend as runner-up, regional champion and Bexley team champion.

Michael Hobson, competing in the boys' youth D, put in admirable effort to ensure a Bexley team victory by claiming second place in the 1,000m run and an impressive performance by Lawrence Easterbrook, with a superb second place in the 1,000m run, ensured his team secured first place.

Bexley Swimming Club can now lay claim to three individual British titles and four British winning teams.
