Eastleigh 12, Sandown and Shanklin 0

SANDOWN and Shanklin’s run in the Gales Hampshire Bowl ended last weekend with a tough defeat at Eastleigh.

In a tight game throughout, Eastleigh scored all their points with the boot, with three penalty kicks in the first half, and a fourth in the second.

The Islanders kept their try line protected well, with great work by props Chris Skelley and Sam Flux, while scrum half Michael Cooper and Vikoma man of the match Cameron Mitchell working hard to try to get the ball out to the backs.

The second half saw many changes in personnel as Todd Eldridge came on followed by Henry Bagnall to inject fresh player to try and break the home side’s stranglehold. Finally, Chris Perfect and Michael Booth followed to replace Skelley and Cooper, but Sandown were unable to affect a change and Eastleigh held on for the win.

Sandown now have friendly fixtures over the coming weeks to conclude the season, which saw them achieve their highest ever league position, fourth in London South West 3. Skipper Luke Chandler said: "We surprised a number of clubs with our performances this year and the boys are keen to build for next season."

Sandown and Shanklin: Skelley, Tyas, Flux, Greenoff, Rees, A. Price, Branstson, Cooper, Mitchell, Tyson, Chandler, K. Price, Barratt, Gough, Perfect, Eldridge, Bagnall, Booth.
