Vectis under-14s on their tour of Sussex.
RUGBYA BRAVE victory and a narrow defeat was the final outcome of Vectis Under-14s’ successful tour to Sussex.
Based at Alfriston, near Eastbourne, the Hampshire Division 2 champions faced Worthing on Saturday and took a 12-0 lead with tries from wing Sean Chetter and Peter Newell. James Fretwell added one conversion.
However, the big Worthing team worked their way back into it and took a 14-12 lead. Vectis twice had the ball over the line but both did not touch the ground. Men of the match were Tom Hatch and Tom Fugatt.
On Sunday, at Eastbourne RFC, Vectis again took a 12-0 lead with two tries from skipper Hugo Bilton and a conversion from Lewis Murray, a score they held to the final whistle.
Men of the match where Scott Whittington and George Law while men of the tour were Harry Overton and Peter Newell.
On Saturday, nine of the Vectis squad were joined by three other Carisbrooke High School pupils as the school represented the south at the HSBC Emerging Schools National tens tournament at Staines. Carisbrooke were soundly beaten in all three group matches despite showing great spirit throughout.
However, they ended on a high, winning their play-off game 3-1, before travelling to Twickenham to watch the Army v Navy match.
