RUGBYIW 60, Romsey 20
DESPITE scoring ten tries in their convincing win over Romsey, IW came away feeling there is still much to do ahead of this weekend’s tough clash at third-placed Millbrook in Hampshire One.
IW were ruthless against a Romsey side who did not travel well, creating space and quickly recycling ball to help Andy White score the first try, Chris Williams converting.
Romsey replied with a try from a tap-and-go penalty but IW were always dominant and an inside pass from Neil Brading released Rouse Intelligent Financial Planning man of the match George Courtney to power in from half way, Williams again adding the kick.
Domination at the scrum led to turn over ball, which Brett Evans snatched on to and scored. Another Brading break had Dan Stirrup in support to score, with the kick added by Williams.
With the centres of Peters and Stirrup tackling and holding up their opposite numbers, the ball was stripped and Courtney again showed a clean pair of heels from way out. Romsey’s only response was to take the three points from a penalty.
Ed Lynch then picked up o complete the first half scoring and finish the game as a contest.
The second half was much of a frustrating event as IW were regularly penalised.
Despite this, from a quick tap, Oli Boulter stormed over, Williams adding the kick. Further penalties caused IW’s defence to lose focus and Romsey took advantage with a score but Boulter drove over again for a try, to cancel out their effort.
Later, Romsey took advantage of further penalties to score and convert but IW completed the scoring with tries for Alex Hay and Lynch, one of which was converted.
IW: White, Tyson, Stirrup, Peters, Williams, Brading, Evans, Lynch, Courtney, Hay, Thomas, Boulter, Clark, Newnham, Puzey, Paisley, Cotter.
