Vectis boys all shine as curtain falls on season

Friday, May 15, 2009

RUGBYVECTIS under-15s had a busy final week of the season, with their players in action around the South.

Tom Brown, Rob Green, Ollie Pestell and Will Yates represented Hampshire in the Regional London and South East England rugby 12s tournament, held at Ruislip RFC.

The boys played well, with Yates scoring two tries and Hampshire coming third against strong opposition.

The following day saw the Vectis under-15s entering the Alton sevens tournament with a squad of ten Richard Shoulder, Tom Hobbs, Matt Jones, Aidan Price, Haydn Ambler, Isaac White, James Webster, Ryan Bridgeman, Harry Stafford and Will Edwards. The boys won their pool convincingly beating Basingstoke 28-12, Alton 17-15 and Farnham 17-7 but went on to be beaten 5-22, by a very strong Havant in the semi-final leaving them with third place overall.

Tries came from Edwards, three, Ambler, three, Webster, two, Hobbs and Shoulder with Stafford also scoring a try and converting five.

On the same day, Dave Greenough, Graham Harding, Cameron Harding, Jack Lyons and George Butler helped their fellow Vectis under-16s in an end-of-season game against Chichester.

This season has been the best ever for the team, only losing four times in 27 games.
