VECTIS under-eights and under-nines braved the wind and rain to travel to Winchester for a mini festival, and came away with great results.
The under-nines were drawn against the strong squads of Winchester and Chichester — two sides they lost narrowly to, with Ralph White scoring for Vectis — and Alton and Petersfield.
The latter two games were 2-2 draws, with tries for Archie Lucy, Hugh Owen and two from Edward White.
Strong tackling from Reuben Cobb, Archie Lucy, Henry Takel and Thomas Cole and determined runs from Andrew Jackson, Ben van der Helstraete and Theo McCann gave the team belief and in their final against Winchester, they forced a draw, Edward White finishing off a great team move to level the scores.
The under-eights lost their opener to Winchester with the final play of the game, 5-4, but won 5-4 against Chichester in an excellent win.
However, after losing 4-3 to Alton, they lost steam in their final match against Trojans, who recorded an 8-2 win.
Vectis bounced back brilliantly though, winning their fourth-place play-off match against Andover, 5-2.
The team comprised Ishbel Eade, George Green, George Hayward, Hayden Lythgoe, Patrick Mattinson, Elliot Paynter-Jones and Rhydian Cobb. Coaching on the day were Dorian Cobb and James Eade.
