Vectis too strong for Bournemouth visitors

RUGBYUnder-16s: Vectis 42, Oakmedians 24
AFTER their Bournemouth-based opponents arrived at their ground dressed as fairies, Vectis were given a tough game.

Vectis took an early lead, Harry Stafford converting his own try but this woke up the Oakmedian back line, some of whom were still wearing pink socks to respond with a converted try of their own.
From the restart, Vectis scored again when Tom Hobbs, playing some good support rugby, received the ball from a dominant Vectis pack to score in the corner.
Dave Greenough stormed over the line soon after and with Stafford converting both the half time score was 21-10 in the Islanders’ favour.
Oakmedians started the second half with a converted try but Vectis replied when a well-worked rolling maul saw Aidan Price break away for a try.
Oakmedians were soon defending their own touch line again, with their full back trying to kick to touch only finding the head of Oli Pestell and, as the ball rebounded over the cross bar Hobbs pounced on the ball to score.
Oakmedians rallied to score their final points of the day but were outdone by Wightlink Vectis Vache award winner Tawanda Matongo scoring his first try in Vectis colours.
Stafford, who had not missed a conversion all day, finished with a tally of 17 points, earning him the Speedy hire man of the match.
