Boreham Wood 2 Uxbridge 1

Full Members Cup 3rd Round

A last gasp winner, three minutes into stoppage time by the Ryman League's top marksman Shaun Marshall was enought to squeeze Wood past the spirited challenge of First Division Uxbridge on Tuesday evening.

Their first reward will be a home tie with the winners of last night's clash between Leyton Pennant and Yeading, as they attempt to reach their third Full Members Cup Final in four years.

Wood parading two of their recent new signings, but both debutants, Steve Talboys and Robert Kean, found the going tough in a first half in which the visitors had the edge.

Wood stroked the ball around almost contemptuously from the start, but Uxbridge forged the better chances, as Martin Taylor saved from Nicky Ryder's break, and watched as Micky Perry slid the ball just wide.

John Mutch hammered a 30-yarder inches off target in the 33rd minute, and shortly afterwards Talboys had Wood's only serious goal attempt of the first period when Sean Dawson tipped his header over.

The hosts found it difficult to get out of first gear, and fell behind three minutes before the break, as Phil Granville had a header half-cleared and Darren Smith smashed the loose ball home for a deserved lead.

Wood increased their workrate in the second half, and were the recipients of a huge slice of luck five minutes after the restart when a hopeful punt forward eluded everyone but Uxbridge centre back Gavin Bamford -- who guided his backheader agonisingly just out of the wrongfooted Dawson's grasp to level the scores.

The visiting keeper then held a low drive from Kean, but at the other end Taylor rescued Wood with a crucial save from Perry, as a large hole appeared in the middle of the home defence.

With every sign on the horizon blaring extra time, Marsall and Junior Samuels, Wood's very own dynamic duo, were thrown into the fray against a tiring visiting backline.

The results were immediate, but when Kerry Dixon nodded Dominic Grime's cross a fraction off target in the 87th minute, it appeared that a further half-hour was on the agenda.

But with play into the 93rd minute, Talboys' pass found Samuels, whose lightning quick feet left his marker for dead, and his low cross was crashed home off the bar in spectacular fashion by Mr Goals himself.

Wood have now lost only two of their 33 matches, winning 26.

WOOD: Taylor, Daly, McCarthy, Hatchett, Prutton, (Robbins, 87), Talboys, Grime, Kean, (Samuels, 71), Dixon, Hollingdale, (Marshall, 71), P Shaw.
