The opening of the Tate Modern Gallery in Bankside, south London was not the only show in town this week ,, artistic youngsters showed off their handiwork at a GCSE exhibition this week.

The artists, all 15 and 16, were the latest in an impressive line at Whitmore High School, Porlock Avenue, Harrow, who have exhibited their creations.

Parents took the opportunity to run an expert eye over their offspring's work at a parents' evening on Tuesday night which coincided with the final night of the show.

The school has been exhibiting examination work for more than 15 years and this year's show was every bit as good as its predecessors.

An art department spokesman said: 'The students have produced a really high standard of work and that can be seen in the artwork which is on display.'

Unfortunately, the paintings and sculptures are not for sale ,, they have to be marked for final examination results.
