The Fleet had the worst possible preparation for the tie against Dr Martens Eastern League leaders Folkestone Invicta, following the humilating 5-0 home defeat against lowly Carshalton in the Ryman League the previous Saturday.

But manager Andy Ford made a couple of team changes, dropping Che Stadhart to the bench and bringing back Dave Powell, with Corey Campbell returning to bolster the defence.

Although the visitors enjoyed plenty of early possession, their attacks fizzled out once they reached anywhere near the Fleet goal and such was the home side's superiority that Folkestone failed to register anything resembling a noteworthy effort on target in the entire 90 minutes.

The Fleet had already sent an alarm bell or two ringing in the Folkestone rearguard, particularly when skipper Scott Lindsey's right-foot effort went just over the angle of post and bar after 13 minutes. So it was no surprise when they went ahead after 21 minutes.

Craig Wilkins played the ball into space and found Steve Rastarick, whose first touch was superb and whose second sent the ball over the top of Dave Whittaker in the Invicta goal.

The Fleet, buoyed by that goal, attacked in numbers and four minutes later they doubled their lead.

Jimmy Jackson, in a left wing-back position passed to Nick Hegley who was a constant threat to the Invicta rearguard all afternoon. His pinpoint cross picked out Restarick whose header blurred past Whittaker to make it 2-0.

Restarick then thought he had notched his hat-trick only to have his, and the team's celebrations, cut short by a linesman's flag.

Lindsey, who had earlier been yellow-carded for a challenge on Clinton Winter, was then shown red midway through the second half following a tackle on Billy Manuel.

Man-of-the-match Restarick then made way for Che Stadhart and the Fleet substitute then put the finishing gloss on a superb team display when Jimmy Jackson wriggled past three defenders to set up Stadhart with the sort of tap-in chance your granny could have scored.
