Wind and rain greets Gurnard sailors

Friday, September 3, 2010

SAILINGAFTER no racing on a stormy Wednesday, 37 boats competed in the final races of the August Mini-series on Sunday, despite a stiff north westerly breeze making it feel more like November than August.

The seven Shadows competing in the cat class found the conditions to their liking and were able to hang on to their larger rivals, with Robin Leather winning comfortably on corrected time.

The highest turnout was in the slow handicap class, despite many of the juniors being away on their Swallows and Amazons weekend at Newtown.

Harry Blowers was first home in his Race Pico but was unable to save his time on James Shepherd with his standard rig.

Harry’s father Paul was more successful, sailing his Finn to a comfortable win in the medium group, while Tom Harding survived several capsizes to lead home the fast handicap class.
