MORE snow has hit the Island, closing schools, stopping some buses and leading to a number of minor road accidents.
Problems were worst in East Wight with Bembridge understood to be cut off.
Many schools across the Island were closed, as well as the Isle of Wight College, Newport, and Southern Vectis was not running school services, although some regular services were still operating.
The company's operations manager, Marc Morgan Huws, said bus services were due to begin again between Newport and Ryde, Cowes and East Cowes shortly, but passengers were still advised not to travel.
Although the company did not run morning school services, Mr Morgan Huws said they would try to ensure there were services this afternoon to take home children who had gone to school.
Services to the West Wight remained suspended and Mr Morgan Huws said they were investigating the situation in the Ventnor area.
Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said there had been reports of many minor accidents and icy road conditions.
Cowleaze, between Shanklin and Ventnor, was this morning described as impassable by an Isle of Wight Council spokesman and gritters were being sent to Binstead Hill and the Shorwell to Brighstone Road.
There were reports of traffic problems at the junction of Upton Road and Ashey Road near Ryde and Sandown Road, Sandown.
Police were advising drivers to take extra care and allow plenty of time for journeys, as more snow fell this morning on top of an overnight freeze.
Drivers were also urged to take extra care by the Isle of Wight Council.
The council said that despite dumping 240 tonnes of salt on main routes last night (Monday) there were reports of problems on a number of roads.
“While the council has taken all the usual precautions to treat the highways, and indeed undertaken an additional salt run, motorists are clearly encountering some problems so our advice would be to take extra care when travelling,” said director of environment and neighbourhoods Stuart Love.
Waste collections were suspended for the day. Refuse collectors will be working extra hours to catch up as conditions improve.
• An Island meteorologist has warned of more snow to come.
David Carrington, of weather website www.wroxall-weather.co.uk, said heavy snow could hit parts of the Island over the rest of today and tonight.
Wintry showers were due tomorrow (Wednesday) and although it was expected to rain on Thursday, the snow was due to return at the weekend, Mr Carrington said.
