AFTER some of the worst weather seen on the Isle of Wight, a meteorologist has appealed to Islanders to back an ambitious project.

David Carrington, of website Wroxall Weather, has created the Centre for Severe Weather Research, in association with the Isle of Wight Weather Centre.

The project, which could run for decades, is aimed at recording Islanders’ experiences of severe weather, including photographs, videos, stories and reports.

“All submissions will be added to the site database for reference. Over time we hope to build up a picture of the Island’s current climate and hopefully our future,” said Mr Carrington.

“It’s turning out to be a hell of winter, the coldest for 13 years, the most snow for 18 years and probably one of the wettest as well,” said Mr Carrington.
