WIGHTLINK Islanders suffered a horror weekend, with a heavy defeat, the sudden retirement of one of its riders and a serious injury to another.

At the meet, at Mildenhall Fen Tigers, they went on to lose 63-30. They were only trailing by four points after five heats, but when Gary Cottham crashed out and suffered a broken collarbone, the Islanders were seemingly knocked off their tracks.

Mildenhall sped ahead, leaving the Islanders — who also had mechanical problems for skipper Danny Warwick and top scorer Aaron Baseby — in their wake.
