A member of the public alerted the fire brigade after he saw smoke billowing from the garage on Upper Richmond Road West at 3.30am on Saturday, April 29.
Fire investigators are trying to establish the cause of the blaze but believe petrol may have been poured over the batteries before they were set alight.
Crews from Richmond and Chiswick extinguished the blaze which caused slight damage to a car and the garage.
