NEWPORT'S home fixture against Sholing in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division scheduled for this evening has been called off.

Following an inspection of the waterlogged St George's pitch at 2.45pm, the game was postponed.

Their previous home fixture, the rearranged league fixture at home to Cowes Sports a week ago, was called off for the same reason.

Newport chairman Stuart Ross described the amount of standing water on the pitch as like a pond and that to play on it would have been too dangerous for the players.

The match will be rearranged for a date yet to be fixed.
