Andrews steers GB to gold

CROSS COUNTRY IW RUNNER Jess Andrews has helped Team GB strike gold at the European Cross-Country Championships.

Jess, 21, of Shanklin, was picked to represent her country in the women’s under-23s race in Belgrade, her international debut.

She produced a storming run to finish an impressive 16th.

And this result, coupled with those of her GB team-mates Charlotte Purdue (third), Kate Avery (fourth), Lilly Partridge (fifth), Rhona Auckland (seventh) and Laura Weightman (eighth), helped them secure team gold.

The Brunel University student, who recently gained a top scholarship through the Mo Farah Foundation, said: "I am overwhelmed to be part of GB’s winning team on my first competition."
