In the first of a programme of annual meetings, members of the Croydon Society of Chartered Accountants (CROYDAC) discussed their concerns with politicians at the House of Commons.

The event was hosted by Tom Brake, Liberal Democrat MP for Carshalton and Wallington. Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South, also joined the group.

Transport was one of the main topics for debate. The Government was going to have be much tougher on what it asked of transport companies, said Tom Brake. They should be held to public account and penalised for failings with increased fines that went straight into the transport system rather than to the Treasury.

He called on companies to meet local commuters and business people to present their ideas.

The MPs agreed that simpler tax legislation was needed. "We will all be trying to bring in simplification in the committee stages," promised Mr Ottaway.
