Olympic hockey gold medallist Sean Kerly attended two demonstration days at Bickley Park School last week, teaching children who weren't even born on that famous day in Seoul 1988.

Kerly, who is marketing manager at Kent College in Canterbury, taught the youngsters how to hold the stick correctly and basic dribbling skills.

The school will be playing hockey for the first time this year which will no doubt please headteacher David Cassell who is a former Scotland international.

PE teacher David White said the days went well. "The boys definitely enjoyed it. To get somebody that renowned - the Gary Lineker of hockey - was quite something."

Kerly spent more than four hours teaching at the school in Southborough Road. "It was very enjoyable. I managed to teach eight half-hour sessions with all the boys in the school," he said. But were there any future Olympians? "There were three or four very good athletes who picked it up very quickly," said the England international. He added that youth hockey was pretty healthy in this country but he would like to see even more children playing.

Kerly is currently playing for Canterbury who are second in the league and through to the semi-finals of the national cup.
