Best times for trio at Abingdon

Steve Rumsey broke an significant barrier.

ATHLETICS THREE members of IW Road Runners competed in the Abingdon marathon last weekend — with all three achieving new PBs.

With its pancake-flat course and good organisation this has become one of the most popular marathons in the country, with more than 700 taking part this year.

Sharon Pyner took an enormous ten minutes off the club’s previous women’s record, finishing in a best time of 3.50.02.

Meanwhile, Steve Rumsey in his tenth marathon of the year, and fourth in the past seven weeks, finally broke the 3.15.00 barrier he had been striving for.

In fact, his time of 3.13.48, for 178th place, earned him automatic good for age London marathon place as well.

Phil Mannall completed a great day for the trio as he crossed the line in a new PB of 3.29.55 for 301st place.

The club meets throughout the year at Medina Leisure Centre on Thursday evenings, at 6.45pm for a 7pm start.
