CYCLOCROSS

ROB Bolwell led a fantastic day of results for the Wight Mountain/Red Funnel team at the fifth round of the Wessex Cyclocross League at Supermarine Rugby Club, Swindon.

Following a week of rain, the course started out very muddy and, even though it began to dry later on, was still very slippy.

Rob Bolwell had a fantastic race to come second in the junior race and this triggered a string of good results.

Nick Charlton-Smith made his first appearance in the team and had a brilliant race, finishing eighth in the seniors’ race, while Martyn Dymond came 18th to consolidate his eighth position in the league and second in the vet 45 category. Andy Pond rode well to take 33rd overall, and 12th in the vet 40 category.

Steve Dines had a bad race but is still second in the vet 55 category and 39th overall in the league.

The previous week at Eastleigh saw Lucy Wells make her debut and compete well against the other riders.
