Bowls finals go to the wire

INDOOR BOWLS TANSY Wheeler and Paul Dickinson were the starts of IW Indoor Bowls Club’s finals’ day last weekend.

Tansy, 16, became the club’s youngest ever ladies’ champion when she defeated Gay Allen 21-18 in an exciting final, while Paul, 29, defeated the current national over-60s champion, Alan Cawdell, by the same score.

In the ladie’s final, Gay took an early lead but Tansy showed grit and determination to pull the scores back to 18-18, and then produce some wonderful shots under pressure to win.

She also won the mixed pairs, teaming up with Keith Beckett to beat Ronnie Berry and Bob Mortlock, 22-13.

The men’s singles final was a mouth-watering tie, at one point tied 10-10, but Paul began to pull away and with some top-quality shots being exchanged, he led 19-12 at one point. Alan though proved his class and brought it back to 19-18, before Paul made the crucial break to win 21-18.
