Bowmen on target

The successful Wight Bowmen team.

ARCHERY

IW ARCHERS dominated a mainland competition earlier this month, with the 15-strong team from Wight Bowmen winning 14 medals, 13 PB scores, six club records and one county record.

The team, in their new shirts sponsored by A. J. Wells (Charnwood), took part in the RN South Coast Archers two-day competition at HMS Collingwood.

In the 25m competition, Lee Grace won the men’s compound on a countback after three archers finished on 564.

Ann Frankum won the ladies’ compound with Tina Grace coming third.

Rick Davidson won the men’s longbow, Jen Davidson came second in the ladies’ recurve and Edward O’Ferrall came second in the junior recurve.

In the team competition, the Wight Bowmen recurve team of Kevin Green, Alan Byford, Danny Sanders and Ken Payne secured second place as did the compound team of Lee, Ann and Jim Frankum. The family team event was won by Ann and Jim, with Tina and Lee coming second.

The FITA 18m was a challenge to the recurve archers as they were shooting on a three-spot face rather than the normal single face, but Edward won bronze in the junior event, while the recurve team of Ben Croad, Danny, Alan and Jen also won bronze.

Rick again managed another gold in the longbow competition, and gained a Hampshire record, while Cameron Hudson won the junior Gents barebow. Jim, Ann and Lee came second in the compound team event.
