Runners who took part in the IW 5,000m track championship this week.

PAUL Cameron triumphed at Ryde Harriers’ 5,000m track championship at the Fairway Sports Complex.

On a hot night for running, IW Road Runner Cameron won in a time of 17.16, with Harrier Tom Blackwell second in 18.20 and Justin Fitzgerald third, in 18.44.

Sarah Kavanagh was the top lady, finishing in 20.31, with Emily (no surname available) second in 22.25 and Amanda Treadgold third, in 23.52.

The best battles of the event came in the veteran categories with Pete White showing really strength to hold off a challenge from Pete Jolliffe for the vet60 prize. In the vet70 category, Jonathon Norton took on old stager Steve Lee and Lee was delighted to beat the young pretender by more than half a lap to take the crown once again.

The 10,000m championship takes place at the same venue on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

The club’s summer series continued with two multi-terrain events, one in Sandown and one in Ryde.

The nominated-time Sandown event, the Winford loop, was won by husband and wife Bridget and Andy Lewis, with Rod Parker fastest.

Ryde runners took on the 5.7-mile Seagrove Saunter, with nomination points going to Elaine Parry and Pete Still fastest.
