OLYMPIC canoeist Richard Jefferies has his sights on the final in his specialist event.

On Wednesday, Richard, formerly of Bembridge, finished seventh in the B final of the C1 1,000m canoe sprint, which made him 15th overall.

Earlier in the week he progressed into the semi-final but missed out on the chance of a medal after failing to qualify for the A final. However, he will race again at Eton Dorney today (Friday), in the canoe sprint 200m.

Richard said: "It was great to have the opportunity to compete in the C1 1,000m and to experience the amazing atmosphere of the home crowd. It was good preparation and I am looking forward to my main event, where I will be aiming to make the final."

*Richard finished third in his heat this morning (Friday) and made it through to the semi-finals, where he finished in sixth place and will not be in tomorrow's finals.
