ISLAND motorcyclist Peter Carr has capped a fantastic season by winning a championship title with four rounds to spare.
Peter wrapped up the Pirelli GP45 Championship title at Cadwell Park, Leicestershire. Riding his Kawaski converted KX 450, Peter has had nine wins and set five class lap records this season.
Another success was to becoming the first rider to win the 650cc race outright on a 450cc bike, which has nearly has nearly half the bhp, as well as taking 0.4 seconds off the 650cc lap record.
Peter’s most recent success was at Castle Combe, a track he was unfamiliar with. He had to start the race at the back of the grid but came through to beat his championship rival by 0.15 of a second on the very last corner of the race.
Peter will be taking part in the final round of the Pirelli GP45 Championship at Thruxton on October 6.
His goal now is to move up a level in the sport.
"I’m trying to raise the funds to take me to BSB 600 superstock and the Thunder-sport GB 600, all of which are televised or alternatively, the Triumph Triple Challenge, where a factory backed ride is first prize." said Peter.
"My plans would require me to raise around £20,00 to compete a full year at these levels.
"I can once again comit to funding some of the season with the help of my current sponsors but we are looking for new sponsors to jump on board to help take us to the next level.
He has ridden motorcycles since he was six, when his father bought him my first motorbike, a TY80 trials bike. As soon as he could he progressed to road bikes and has enjoyed success at a number of levels.
"I’m proud of what I’ve achieved. Coming from the IW, it’s hard to progress in any motorsport. I race because I like to ride my bike and win. I’m driven because as I reach a goal I set a new one and, as long as you’re motivated, I believe with hard work and dedication you’ll always reach your goals."
Peter, who lives in Lake and is a carpenter, says his success is not down to him alone, but because of the support he gets from the Island community.
