SNOOKER CHILLERTON A provided the shock of the weekend as the Island Vecta League’s knock-out competitions got under way.

The second division side produced a great performance to defeat first division Ryde Social A by 109 points, and set up a semi-final place against West Wight.

West Wight Social Club hosted last season’s division two champions Arreton D and proved too good, winning four of the five frames with an aggregate score of 333-198.

In the other matches, East Cowes Conservative Club travelled to Arreton C and with the help of Luke Simmonds, won by 220 points. They go on to play Ryde Social B, of Division 2, who had a walk over against Sandown Social.

Meanwhile, in the new three-man format, Ambassador A came up against Arreton A in the Jim Watkins Knock-out, but were beaten 332-283.

Arreton will play Newport Social A in the final, after they beat their own B team by just ten points.

Andy Bradbury, a new player to the Ambassdor Premier League, laid down the gauntlet with a great win over Les Masterman.

In a yo-yo match, the two players traded frames before Andy got home 47-46 in the final frame decider.

Malcolm Campbell took the early league lead after Terry Chiverton succumbed 5-0, while reigning champion, Dave Young defeated Roy Stopps 3-2. Stopps claimed the last frame 75-61.

Keith Prowse beat Malcolm Roberts, despite the latter gaining a great start, 74-51, winning the final frame on the final ball.

Roy Prouton stopped Roger Packer after a close battle which was settled on the last, 52-25, while Richard Griffiths got off to a great start against Michael Kirk who pipped him 51-40, in the fourth.
