CORNWALL proved too strong for the IW county pool team last weekend, although there was plenty to smile about for the hosts.

The men’s A team lost their match 26-18, despite holding Cornwall for much of the match. Jamie Bradshaw and Richie Mayes were the Island’s star performers, both winning three frames out of four.

The men’s B team got off to a slow start and were always struggling to keep pace against a very strong Cornwall side, eventually losing 28-16, Tim Cooper winning three out of four frames.

A 28-6 scoreline in the ladies’ section flattered Cornwall, as the IW battled hard but could not quite get the finish they needed.

Deborah Caldwell won two out of four frames, while new recruit Shannon Keates came close to securing a win in all her four frames.

The team, who are sponsored by Wightlink and Clare Lallow, of Cowes, play Dorset in their next match. They thanked Kenny Page, of Page the Packers, who recently donated six new sets of professional balls.
