COWES Sports and East Cowes Vics are preparing for their first cup final of the new season tonight (Sunday).

The final of the County Press-sponsored Westwood Cup, the pre-season tournament to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Cowes Sports's ground, takes place at Westwood Park at 5pm, and hosts Cowes must surely be favourites.

Preceding the final will be a play-off for third and fourth place, which will be contested by Newport and Brading Town. Kick off for that match is at 2pm.

The tournament began on Friday, when Cowes defeated Brading Town 2-0, thanks to a double from Dom Burbidge.

The second semi-final,between Newport and East Cowes Vics, held yesterday (Saturday) went to penalties after the sides could not be separated after 90 minutes. Jake Younie had scored for Vics, with Tom McInnes scoring for Newport. But from the spot-kicks, Vics won 4-3.
