The experimental closure of the Nether Street slip road by the bus terminus in Finchley is to go ahead at a cost of £15,000.
Closing the road, which runs between Ballards Lane and High Road, is the first plank in Barnet Council's ambitious plan to pedestrianise Tally Ho.
Despite a 656-signatory petition from members of St Albans Church which argues that closure will cause congestion, the scheme will be assessed in six months with a view to making it permanent.
That would cost an extra £95,000 for materials, with the town centre picking up the bill for annual running costs of around £1,000.
