FORMER first-class bowler Chris Russell has been named the new captain of Ventnor Cricket Club.
The 28 year old, who played for Ventnor as a junior before forging a first-class career at Worcestershire, will captain the first team this season.
He said: “I had ten enjoyable years playing against some top cricketers but now it’s pay back time.
“I owe Ventnor a lot for helping my development and pointing me towards the professional game.
“We will train and prepare well for the new season and we’ll continue to support the development and ambition of our young players.
“We are also aiming to increase and strengthen our playing membership.”
