Friendly win

Finchley 34 Cheshunt 7

Both sides fielded composite sides for this international day friendly which Finchley won comfortably with an impressive first half performance.

Finchley's back row of McArdle, Bennett and Burman rampaged through their opponent, providing good ball to new scrum half Colbert, who showed promise on his debut with both his ball distribution and tactical kicking.

The score at half time was 29-7, with tries from Houghton-Cambell, Baker, Burman and McArdle.

In the second half, Finchley relaxed, allowing Cheshunt back into the game as the visitors gained ground through tight forward play.

Finchley stood their ground, despite losing lock Hawtrey Woore with a damaged hamstring as he joined a long list of casualties.

In the last quarter, Finchley recovered the patter of play adopted so effectively in the first half and a fine try by flanker McArdle sealed Cheshunt's fate.

On Saturday, Finchley are home to Chiswick in a friendly, kick-off 2.30pm.
