THERE was plenty of positives to reflect on after a busy and highly successful first season for Island-based adults and juniors of the Whitwell-based Bike Jockey Cycling Club.
The children’s racing squad achieved some incredible results, with Harrison Hendy finishing third at the National Championships, first in the Mountbatten Circuit series, in Portsmouth, and the Winchester Criterium, and holding on to the green points jersey at his first Continental race in Assen, Holland, until a bad collision on the penultimate stage relegated him to third spot.
Myles Bradley, in his first season of racing, claimed second overall at the Mountbatten Circuit series, with his brother, Chase, taking third.
Jack Gillard overcame heavy crashes to finish, despite his injuries, the Winchester Criterium and the VC Venta Criterium, while Seb Foster showed he was a winner at the Sotonia Summer Criterium.
“These boys are all, with the exception of Harrison, only racing their first season, which makes us one of the most successful racing clubs on the South Coast,” said leading club member, Faye Faber.
The adults’ racing calendar has been almost as busy, with Marcus Attridge and Hollie Dowling taking part in the Behind The Bike Shed Summer Series, at Thruxton motor racing circuit.
Hollie took top ten finishes in many of them to add to her British Cycling points tally, to make her, at one stage, the highest ranked fourth category rider in the South. Team mate, Faber achieved the same ranking as the season progressed.
Faber has now returned from the UCI AWCT Time Trial World Championships after claiming a tenth place at the event, held in Albi, France. She also took part in the British Cycling National Championships.
