It is up to the people of Borehamwood to ensure the £2.7million Government cash injection awarded this week does not go to waste. Residents must make their voices heard and tell the Borehamwood Community Partnership (BCP) what community projects they want to benefit from the money.

Projects which the cash will help, such as the Community Development Unit (CDU) in Leeming Road, are already up and running. But the money will come over a period of seven years, and in that time the needs of people in Campions, Cowley, Kenilworth and Brookmeadow wards are bound to change.

Authorities have vowed they will listen to residents when putting flesh on the bare bones of the 21 projects -- and residents must ensure that promise is kept. Those sceptics who believe speaking out achieves nothing should learn from two other stories published in this week's Borehamwood Times. Bosses at Elstree Studios have listened to residents protests and shelved plans to build an access road across Maxwell Park. And Green Belt campaigners have seen councillors strike from the District Plan Green Belt sites previously threatened with housing development.

The BCP has worked hard to secure Government funding for Borehamwood -- now it is up to the community to speak out.
