THE nomination deadline for this year’s IW Sports Achievement Awards is edging closer.

The annual event recognises outstanding achievement or service among sportsmen and women of all ages on the IW and nominations must be submitted by January 10.

Susie Sheldon, chair of the IW Sports Foundation, which organises the awards, said: “Thanks to those who have already sent in their nominations.

“We would like to see as many sports and clubs as possible represented.

“Putting forward a nomination is a public acknowledgement of a successful individual or team, or the contribution a sports volunteer or officer has made.

“The reports published each week in the County Press show there is much to proclaim but there are also many unsung heroes.”

Schools can also be nominated, with an award for the primary school which has done the most to promote sport and physical activity, alongside the best new sports project in a secondary school.

The nominations will be judged by an independent panel.

The finalists will be invited to an awards ceremony at Medina Theatre on March 22.

Forms are available from www.iowsports.org or e-mail info@iowsports.org.
