SOLENT Netball Club became double champions last weekend, after winning the IW Netball Open Tournament.
The first team, which also won this year’s IW Netball League, remained unbeaten throughout the tournament at Seaclose on Sunday.
But the day didn’t go entirely to plan for the league champions, who lost their captain, Kelly Ross, in the first match, when she tore her ankle ligaments.
Following a closely contested match against Solent, Shorwell 1 were runners up in the cup competition and Gurnard 1 were third.
Twelve teams took part in this year’s event, organised by Gurnard Netball Club, with teams progressing to a plate and cup competition following a round robin in the morning.
The three top teams from each group went through to battle it out for the cup, while the bottom three qualified for the plate.
After winning all of their afternoon matches, Mad Cowes won the plate competition, with Gurnard 2 and Solent 3 in second and third place.
The tournament was also attended by newcomers Marigolds and Friday Ladies, plus netball veterans the Yummy Mummies, who were last year’s winners.
