Double joy for IW juniors

THE IW junior squash team produced stunning performances to win their debut home matches in the Hampshire Junior League.

The first team played Portsmouth Grammar School and victories for Tim Ng (11-1, 11-3, 11-2), Katie Burke, in her last match as a junior (11-2, 11-1, 11-1), and Connar Bates (12-10, 11-9, 11-6) got them off to a great start.

Brandon Hanmore was engaged in a great battle, but lost over five sets 7-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-5, 3-11. However the IW still enjoyed a convincing 11-3 overall win.

The second team played Nuttfield and whitewashed their opponents.

Top seed Liam Newton-Coyle won his games 11-5, 11-7, 11-8, second string Harry Foster echoed this with an 11-8, 11-5, 11-5, while Bradley Murray had the quickest match, winning 11-1, 11-3, 11-1.

On his debut, Aaron Moore also won 11-5, 11-0, 11-8, to secure a 16-0 win for the IW.

l On Tuesday, the South African Knights who are currently touring the country visit Westridge Squash Club to play the Island’s top five players.

IW have yet to win against the very strong Knights and the match starts at 6pm. Potential players are Alex Phillips, Adam Dominey, Chris Green, Jamie MacNaughton and Oliver Clifton-Moore.
