ISLAND cyclists Arthur Venables and Matt Harris took on the challenging Tour of Lod Valley time trial last weekend.
The duo, representing team a3crg travelled to Fernhurst for the event, which covered 23 miles and more than 2,000ft of elevation, with some section having gradients of up to 20 per cent.
Matt continued on from his success of the previous weekend, finishing in 59.10 for eighth place, despite having his chain fall off en route. Matt also helped the team to take the overall team prize.
Junior rider Arthur managed a time of 1.05.36, which placed him well in the field. This time was all the more impressive given he had a puncture just before the start and his chain fell off at the foot of the toughest hill.
In a separate trial, called the 2-Up time trial, the fastest time posted was 57.40 with an average speed of 23.9mph, only 0.8mph faster than Matt.
