Duo skate to silver

ICE SKATING

CHARLOTTE Aiken and her ice dance partner, Josh Whidbourne, achieved exactly what they wanted to by bagging a silver medal at the British Figure Skating Championships last weekend.

Charlotte, 20, a former Islander who learned to skate at Ryde Arena, and Josh, were third after the short programme element of the competition in Sheffield.

But a great free programme performance to Singin’ In The Rain pushed them up to silver.

She said: "It was the best we had ever skated our free programme and we were so relieved and happy."

The couple are now waiting to hear if they have qualified for the European Championships, which take place in Zagreb in January.

It was the first year the duo had competed a senior level, proving they are a great prospect for the future.

Meanwhile, Charlotte’s younger brother, Henry, 17, who also learned to skate at Ryde, came fifth in the junior ice dance with his partner, 13 year old Mina Zdravkova.

Both Charlotte and Henry, and their partners, represented Lee Valley at the competition.
