MOTORSPORT DAVE Dutch produced the goods once again to win the IW Car Club’s sealed surface championship title last week.
With only four opportunities to set the fastest time, the pressure was really on but Dave made it count in the final run to take the fifth round victory, and the overall title.
Brother John Dutch set the early pace, leading after run one but only by one hundredth of a second from Toby Allen.
In the second run, Dave set the pace, four seconds faster than John’s best, with Dan Morgan second. Dan then took the lead in the third round, but Dave pipped him and his final run time of 58.54 was just enough. Dan was second on 58.95, with Toby third on 59.24.
There were also different class prizes to be won on the day and these were taken by Dave, Toby, Dan, Dean Long and Darren Cole. The fastest woman was again Vicky Cox, with Jill Williams second and Linda Burt third.
A week previously, Toby Allen won the penultimate round of the IW Car Club Championship at BAE Systems car park, in wet and cold conditions.
He left it late, setting the fastest time in the fifth and final run, to take overall victory by almost a second from Dave Dutch.
The first run saw Andy Williams set the early pace with a round of 54.29, but Dutch put in a time of 53.33 seconds in the second run to take the lead.
Allen then found another gear and, from the third to the final run, led the way, setting faster and faster times of 51.87, 51.68 and finally, 50.64.
Dutch improved his own time to 51.60 but couldn’t quite make it. Dave Goodwin, with 51.71, was third.
There were five class victories also up for grabs and these were taken by Allen, Dutch, Dan Morgan, Darren Cole and Daniel Kozakewycz. The fastest woman was Vicky Cox.
