The New Deal launched across Britain in April 1998 is designed to help young people who are unemployed on a long term basis get back to work through one-to-one counselling and careers guidance.

In south west London, Aztec has been working with the employment service and a number of other partners to make the most of the New Deal concept in the area.

Colin Purtill, district manager at the employment service said, "After nine months we are already beginning to see how well the New Deal can work for people who want to find a way of getting their working life on track, but need the focus of individual guidance to help them make the right move."
