A 12 month, £3.5 million refurbishment of Walthamstow bus station starts next Saturday.
The reconstruction of the station will enable it to handle about 2500 buses a day, as services in the area are increased by Transport for London.
A subway link to Walthamstow Central tube station will also be built.
The refit will improve security for passengers, with full CCTV coverage and better lighting.
The station upgrade is part of a project to revamp Walthamstow town square and gardens.
London Buses Head of Infrastructure Mike Weston said the station would become a state-of-the-art facility, with improved security, information services and waiting facilities for passengers.
"It will ensure that all the buses in the area can use the station."
