NEWPORT FC manager Andy Sampson has resigned from the club following the side's loss to Cowes Sports on Bank Holiday Monday.
Sampson handed his resignation to football club chairman Stuart Ross straight after the Ports lost 2-0 to Cowes.
Ross declined to comment on the reasons for his resignation, but Sampson, appointed first team manager in 2015, has seen his side struggle in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier League this season.
The Port slipped to 16th with four points from the first five games, following consecutive losses to their Island rivals and 4-0 at home to Andover Town on Saturday .
Sampson had also resigned from the St George's Park club in May due to 'internal administrative matters', but returned days later.
Ross said: "On behalf of the football club we would like to thank Andy for his time, dedication and commitment to the club.
"Andy has been a leader throughout his time as first team manager and I know the whole squad are grateful for the opportunities he gave them.
"We wish Andy all the very best of luck for the future."
As Ports boss, Sampson led the side to victory in two Isle of Wight Senior Gold Cup finals and took them to the Sydenhams Wessex Football League Cup final two seasons ago.
First team players Gary Streeter and Darren Powell will be in caretaker charge whilst the club search for a permanent replacement.
Ross added: "We have no names in the frame for the post. We are looking to appoint the right person and the club will not be rushing into making a decision on that.
"We will not be advertising for the role. We will hopefully be looking to appoint from within the club or though our own contacts."
