Gold for Jess

Gold medallists Jess Andrews, left, and her Aldershot, Farnham and District team.

ATHLETICS ALTHOUGH still a junior, IW runner Jess Andrews won her first senior national title at the National Road Relays in Nottinghamshire last weekend.

After impressing her mainland club, Aldershot Farnham and District, in the southern region relays, coaches gave her the opening leg for the national contest.

Jess was soon into her running on the first of the 1.8km loops, tucked in with the leading pack, and as the pace increased on the second section she held her form to sprint home in seventh, in 12.03.

Montana Jones moved Aldershot into contention on leg two, before Lily Partridge and Great Britain international Emelia Gorecka brought the title home, in a total time of 46.29.

Across all clubs and all legs, Jess ran the 15th quickest leg of the day, and will take this result with her when she tackles the Cabbage Patch ten-mile race in Twickenham this weekend.
