TRIATHLON
TEN members of the Wightlink-sponsored Wight Tri club took part in the Eastleigh Sprint Triathlon last weekend, with great results.
The event comprised a 400m lake swim, a 20km cycle leg and a 5km run.
First out of the lake was Cohan Tyler in an excellent 8.25, followed by Natalie Bee in 8.51 and Liz Dunlop in 8.53. At this stage, Natalie pulled out as she could not bike or run due to a foot injury.
The remaining nine members continued with Steve Gratton (vet 55-59) finishing first, and 20th overall, in 1.09.55.
Nina French (vet 45-49) was next, finishing 31st overall and second woman, in 1.11.26, with junior Cohan Tyler just behind in 1.12.17, for 38th overall.
Steve Dines (vet 55-59) was next to finish in 1.15.01, for 50th overall and 45th male, with Liz Dunlop (vet 55-59) following closely in 1.15.31, for 54th overall and sixth woman.
In their first triathlons, Rob Merryfield was 58th overall in 1.16.05, Neil Cooper finished in 1.19.23 and Connor Ambrosini, aged just 14, came 104th overall. Completing the team was Bill French, who finished in 1.31.30, a wrong turn on the bike leg losing him valuable time.
l The club held its Yaverland Splash and Dash last weekend, a nominated-time event comprising a 400m sea swim and 2.25-mile run.
The team of Sarah Younger and Dave Allmand, who finished five seconds outside their nominated time of 32 minutes, won with Gary Kurth, who finished 31 seconds inside his time of 22.30 — and was fastest on the day — second, with Steve Gratton third.
Nina French was fastest woman, in 27.44.
