FOUR young IW table tennis players have made a great start in the National Cadet League.
Anna Joyce, Daniel Waterman, Temeesha Hobbs and Michael Joyce comprise the IW Vectis team in this year’s competition, which is held at the Waterside, Southampton.
In the early stages, IW Vectis have posted 7-2 victories over both Portsmouth and North Mundham, with Anna and Daniel unbeaten.
They lost to Bournemouth A, early Division 1 leaders, but it was a far closer match than the score suggests, with Daniel and Anna only losing in the fifth and final sets, while Temeesha and Michael played well, winning four of their six games each.
The next round of the competition on November 18.
Back on the IW, Bembridge Goodies have stolen first place from Newport Vics A in division 1, with an 8-2 victory over Ryde Nil, Jim Hall and Michael Bulpitt both getting a hat-trick and Mike Prior winning two games.
Vics A are just one point behind after a 6-4 win over Shanklin Piranhas, with Christopher Angus winning all three of his games for Vics.
Rookley Bees still hold their lead in Division 2 even after a 5-5 draw against Smallbrook Panthers, Carl Rye of the Bees being the player of the match after winning all three of his games. The Panthers have taken second place, with 17 points from Ryde Rooks, but have played an extra match.
In division 2 two teams are at the top, with Smallbrook Still Sharp joining Smallbrook Muskateers after their convincing 9-1 victory over Ventnor Coven, with Maggie Preston again unbeaten.
Muskateers managed a 7-3 victory over Vics Juniors, Jean-Luc Belon unbeaten.
